We are now the Vancouver Girls Soccer Club and we have an expanded mandate and are working on a new vision. The club was formed in the spring of 2007 as an initiative to consolidate girls soccer in the Vancouver area. The club now fields both youth and senior teams. Our goal is provide females of all ages a place to play soccer where soccer for females is the primary focus.
The club emanated from the Vancouver Eastside Girls Soccer Association (VEGSA), which was originally formed to provide more opportunities to girls playing soccer on the east side of the city. Since then, a consensus grew among club officials that a wider mission was required to address the many issues facing girls soccer across all of Vancouver. We now have members from Boundary Road to UBC!
Fielding teams in the Senior level is a step towards an expanded vision for this club When youth players complete U18, up until now, they had to leave their home club and find a new club. More often than not, players simply dropped out of the game entirely. Vancouver Girls Soccer Club players leaving U18 will be encouraged to join our U21 teams. Players leaving our U21 teams will have other teams to move to. Right now, we have the Sabres in Div 1 and we expect to add other teams shortly providing the youth with a place to play as the leaved youth soccer and providing the senior teams with new blood.
The VGSC also strives to provide the best possible soccer experience to its club members so girls will continue developing in the game in Vancouver.
